Bresnan, Fox and CBS affiliates reach tentative fee agreement

Grand Junction’s Fox and CBS affiliates have reached a deal with Bresnan Communications to allow local cable viewers to continue to watch their local news and entertainment shows.

Shawn Beqaj, spokesman for Bresnan Communications, said a deal was struck three days ago.

Beqaj said a crawler KREX-TV ran over the weekend warning local cable customers that they could lose their local news was used in error.

“We have a tentative agreement,” said Ron Tillery, general manager for Grand Junction’s CBS and Fox affiliates.

“And I believe what is left to do is simply hammer out the deal points and reduce it to a written contract, which may take a week or two.”

Neither Tillery nor Beqaj could comment on the amount of the fee.

Tillery told The Daily Sentinel earlier this month that his stations and Bresnan Communications were at “an impasse” over the fees the cable company should pay the local broadcaster.

Cable companies pay local television stations a per-month, per-subscriber fee, which varies from channel to channel. They renegotiate these fees every three years.

Grand Junction’s NBC and ABC affiliates either have or will renew their contracts by the year’s end.
