Briefs: OA Elias Duo Concert March 20, 2009

Works of Dvorak, Piazzolla to be featured by Elias Duo in concert at Mesa College

“Dvorak Meets Piazzolla” combines the works of two very different great composers into one concert featuring The Elias Duo.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the Recital Hall of Mesa State College’s Moss Performing Arts Center.

The Elias Duo is Carlos Elias, director of the Mesa State College Symphony Orchestra and professor of violin studies, and his wife Andrea Arese-Elias, a pianist.

The recital will feature four romantic pieces by Dvorak, his “Sonatina in G Major” as well as Piazzolla’s renowned tangos: “Oblivion,” “Chiquilin de Bachin” and “Vuelvo al Sur.”

Other works to be performed include Halsey Steven’s “Sonatina No. 3” and William Bolcom’s “Sonatina No. 3,” which are both examples of American contemporary music, according to a news release.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.
