Briefs: OA MSC Concerts April 17, 2009
Mesa State alive with music
It’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon of music at Mesa State College in the coming days with percussion, choir and jazz combo student performances.
• The Mesa State Percussion Ensemble Concert is at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the college’s Recital Hall in the Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.
The concert is aptly titled “Time Travels” with pieces dating from 1683 to present day. Songs include a Bach fugue, a Joplin ragtime, “Head Talk” by Mark Ford, “Weatherkings” by William Kraft and more.
• “From Sunset to Sunrise” is the theme for the Mesa State Women’s Choir concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in the college’s Recital Hall.
According to the college, images of sunset, stars, darkness and the beginning of dawn will be put to music. The choir will sing with Javier de los Santos, a Mesa State graduate with a master’s degree in classical guitar. The concert will close with a selection of Broadway show tunes.
• The Mesa State Student Chamber Ensembles and Jazz Combos will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the college’s Recital Hall.
Tickets for each concert cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the box office at 248-1604.
