Briefs: Popular band performs October 03, 2008

Veteran band Clutch has evolved much over the years

Two decades ago you might have heard Clutch, but would you recognize them now?

Clutch is metal, punk, Southern rock and classic rock, depending on the year and album.

“Musically, we’ve become much more of a rock ’n’ roll band now, as opposed to being a metal or hard core one,” said vocalist Neil Fallon on the band’s Web site biography. “Our style is riff oriented, with a swing. It’s never been a calculated move; we just followed our instinct.”

Clutch, from Maryland, is doing their thing at Mesa Theater and Club on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with bands The Sword and Graveyard.

Just released is Clutch’s “Full Fathom Five” live DVD and CD.

The Sword is a metal band from Austin, Texas. Graveyard is a Swedish classic rock band.
