The Mesa State College women’s soccer team is back in the RMAC tournament.

The Mavericks (11-6-1, 6-4-0 RMAC) clinched an RMAC tournament berth with a 2-1 RMAC victory Friday over Adams State College in Alamosa.

Freshman Alyssa Michel gave Mesa a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 37th minute on a free kick 40 yards out. The Mavericks hung on to the 1-0 lead until the 62nd minute when Mesa’s Sherilyn Stoffel put a rebound in the net. Dany Ramirez was credited with an assist.

Adams State (1-16-0, 0-10-0 RMAC) ended a five-game scoreless streak with a goal in the 86th minute.

Mesa State had 18 shots, including eight on goal. Julie Rasmussen and Kaitlin Bennett combined to make seven saves. Bennett came in for Rasmussen, who was in a collision in the game’s sixth minute.

The Mavericks have three RMAC games remaining to determine their seed for the RMAC tournament.

The Mavericks’ chances of making the RMAC tournament are getting slimmer.

Mesa State (8-9-0, 4-7-0 RMAC) lost for the seventh time in its past eight games, falling 2-1 to Colorado School of Mines in Golden.

The Mavericks are in sixth place with three games left. The top four teams qualify for the RMAC tournament.

“We have to win out and get some help,” Mesa State coach Josh Pittman said. “We haven’t taken care of our business.”
