Centennial Band gets patriotic

Music by American composers Henry Mancini and Leroy Anderson will join the playlist of standard patriotic favorites at the “Rhythms & Sounds of Spring” concert presented by the Grand Junction Centennial Band.

The all-volunteer band, which is in its 30th year, will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.

More than 60 western Colorado-area men and women are part of the band and are “dedicated to making a unique musical and cultural contribution to our community presenting concerts in the Great American Band tradition.”

Directed by Gary Ambroiser, “Rhythms & Sounds of Spring” will feature special guests the Synthesis Irish Dancers, which will perform with the band during “Riverdance.”

Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6–12 and adults ages 65 and older, and children ages 5 and younger get in free.
