Check out eight adventurous films at Avalon
Enjoy the outdoors even while indoors via Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour.
From the seats in the Avalon Theatre, viewers will go from Utah to remote Russia, BASE jumping to out for a walk.
Eight films will be shown beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Avalon, 645 Main St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a silent auction and music by Talya Dewey.
Tickets cost $10 in advance at wccongress.org — Western Colorado Congress and its Mesa County chapter are hosting this event — Summit Canyon Mountaineering in Grand Junction and Copper Club Brewing Co. in Fruita.
Tickets cost $15 at the door. Children younger than 10 get in free.
Here is the lineup of films and details according to news released from the Western Colorado Congress:
■ “Kamchatka Steelhead Project” (7 min.) — Russia’s remote Kamchatka Peninsula is home to some of the world’s most abundant steelhead runs, and the setting for a unique U.S.-Russia partnership.
■ “Mile 19” (10 min.) — Postal worker and Vietnam vet Johnnie Jameson’s offbeat engagement with the L.A. Marathon is a powerful story of resilience, humor and healing.
■ “Operation Moffat” (20 min.) — Young climbers Claire Carter and Jen Randall follow in the footsteps of Gwen Moffat, who exemplified the “dirtbag climber” archetype long before the term was coined.
■ “Ace and the Desert Dog” (9 min.) — For his 60th birthday, Utah-based photographer Ace Kvale takes his dog Genghis for a 60-day walk in their 2-million-acre backyard, and both learn new lessons.
■ “Wasfia” (11 min.) — The first Bangladeshi to scale the Seven Summits, Wasfia Nazreen climbs for the women of Bangladesh.
■ “When We Were Knights” (12 min.) — Knowing that his life could be cut short, climber and BASE jumper Matt Blank embarked on a project of writing letters to his closest friends and family. What he didn’t know was that his best friend and climbing partner would go first.
■ “Showdown at Horseshoe Hell” (20 min.) — Throwing down at a 24-hour competition in Arkansas, elite climber Alex Honnold doesn’t count on the local rowdiness and a pair of underdogs.
■ “Angel Collinson Annihilates Alaska” (4 min.) — The spines of Alaska don’t stand a chance against this award-winning freestyle skier.
