Cinco de Mayo offers plenty to do
Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated with plenty of color, music and good food.
There will be traditional Mexican folkloric dance troupes, mariachi sounds, Mexican delicacies and a jalapeno-eating contest.
The celebration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, on Colorado Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets. There will be arts and crafts, games and informational booths, along with nonstop entertainment featuring singers and folkloric dancing, a dance band and a hip hop performance. Between sets, the Cruz’n Music Machine will keep things going.
A presentation of graduating senior scholarship winners will be at 12:15 p.m.
The jalapeno eating contest gets under way at 1:45 p.m. with prizes of $75 for first place, $50 second and $25 for third.
The day concludes with a street dance from 6–10 p.m. featuring the band Perfección from New Mexico.
