City, college combine events for Martin Luther King Day

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS


•   5 to 5:30 p.m.: Remembrance march beginning near Moss Performing Arts Center on Mesa State College campus.

•  5:30 to 6 p.m.: Refreshments at Mesa Experimental Theatre.

•  6 to 7 p.m.:  program at Mesa Experimental Theatre:
    Welcome message, invocation by District 51 board member Harry Butler.
    “What a Love” performed by Stacey Lyons and Mariah Lyons.
    Historical perspective of King presented by professor Tom Acker.
    Step dance by PROMISE, People Rising, Overcoming, Mentoring, Igniting Souls Everywhere.
    Jessica Woodruff will read her essay based on King’s “I See the Promised Land” sermon.
    Middle school student will read essay on “How I Support Tolerance in My Community.”
    “Promises” performed by Lazarus.
    King’s famous speech, “I Have a Dream,” will be read by Mesa State Associated Student Government President Adam Davenport.
    “Oh Happy Day” will be sung by Josiah Goering.
