Classical guitarist, GJ symphony join in concert
French composers, a French-inspired concerto and a performance by classical guitarist Javier de los Santos fill the program for Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra’s “Parlez-vous francais?”
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Grand Junction High School auditorium, 1400 N. Fifth St.
De los Santos will join the symphony the guitar concerto “Fantasia para un gentilhombre” by Joaquin Rodrigo. De los Santos studied guitar in Mexico and the United States, receiving his masters degree in music from the University of Denver and studying with Maestro Ricardo Iznaola, Masakasu Ito and Jonathan Leathwood, according to a news released from the symphony.
De los Santos lives in Grand Junction, giving private lessons and giving guitar instruction at Colorado Mesa University.
Along with de los Santos’ performance, “Parlez-vous Francais?” will feature a portion of Claude Dubussy’s “Le martyre de Saint Sebastien,” followed by Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedies.”
Rounding out the evening will be Gabriel Fauré’s “Pelleas et Melisande Suite” and Gabriel Ravel’s “Rapsodie espganole.”
