Colorado National Monument, bookstore open again

The end to the federal shutdown means historic RimRock Drive, trails and the visitor center at Colorado National Monument is open.

The federal shutdown, which began Oct. 1, resulted in a $13,000 hit to the nonprofit organization, Colorado National Monument Association. The agency sells books and other items in the visitor center, but was unable to conduct sales while the park was closed.

The figures were based on data from last year’s sales, according to a release from the Colorado National Monument Association.

“This loss of revenue can never be recovered and represents a serious blow to our small non-profit organization that exists solely to enhance and support our national treasure here in the Grand Valley,” said Ginny McBride, a member of the Association.
