Colorado Mesa development director steps down

Kristi Pollard will resign as Colorado Mesa University’s director of development at the end of September.

Pollard, 37, said she will continue to volunteer in the community and is trying to work out a way to stay involved in the university, but she decided to leave her job to take care of her three sons.

“I decided I didn’t want to look back 20 years from now and think, ‘Where did the time go?’” she said.

Pollard took over the position in January 2009 after John Marshall left the development-director position to become the university’s vice president of student services.

As development director, Pollard oversees fundraising and alumni relations, and she directed marketing and communications until Rick Taggart was hired as executive director of marketing and recruitment last year.

The university raised more than $13 million during Pollard’s tenure, and her department started the Colorado Capital Conference, which took Coloradans to Washington, D.C., to learn about federal government.

Pollard also oversees the Legacy Campaign, which launched last year. She said the campaign is about 65 percent of the way to its goal of raising $5.7 million for academic endowments, athletics, campus speakers, and renovations to the Montrose campus.
