Darden Smith to play Roper Music Ballroom
With a career spanning nearly three decades, including the release of 14 albums, singer/songwriter Darden Smith will make a stop in Grand Junction for a show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Roper Music Ballroom, 130 N. Fifth St.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $25 and are available at Triple Play Records, 530 Main St.
Smith’s visit to Grand Junction comes on the heels of the release of his most recent album, “Love Calling,” a 13-track album with two acoustic bonus tracks.
In addition to a long, successful musical career in a variety of genres, Smith created the Be An Artist Program, where he goes into schools to encourage students to be creative, and the SongwritingWith programs, which includes SongwritingWith: Soldiers.
SongwritingWith: Soldiers started in 2010 when Smith started writing songs with groups of combat veterans returning from the Middle East because, as Smith wrote at dardensmith.com, “Songs have a way of expressing what words alone sometimes can’t.”
Recording since 1986, Smith weaves together “rock, pop, country, folk and Americana influences with the musical roots of his home state of Texas,” according to his website.
