Day of Dogs benefits humane society

Miranda Ashman poses with her dogs Lupe and Isa. National Take Your Dog to Work Day is celebrated on June 21.

Lupe and Isa trotted behind Miranda Ashman at the COBB & Associates Marketing and Communications offices. As the dogs licked at her face, Ashman planned for Take Your Dog to Work Day.

For the second year, COBB will celebrate the holiday while partnering with the Roice-Hurst Humane Society to host a supply and dog food drive.

Ashman said the office wanted to make the day more than just fun.

“We decided to turn it into a fundraiser to benefit needy dogs at Roice-Hurst animal shelter, which made perfect sense,” Ashman said.

Everyone seemed to enjoy participating in the event, which starts out with a “pack walk” in the parking lot, Ashman said. All the dogs have the chance to meet each other, on the walk, before spending all day in the office.

Fellow dog lovers are encouraged to drop off needed supplies including dog food, collars, leashes and unopened cleaning supplies. Donors will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift basket from Chow Down Pet Supplies.

CEO Teri Cavanagh encouraged other businesses to participate.

“Even if your boss won’t allow dogs at the office, you can still help Mesa County’s rescue dogs by donating to our doggie drive,” Cavanagh said.

Ashman was optimistic for Thursday’s event.

“I think we raised 750 pounds of dog food, $500 in cash, big boxes of treats, toys and leashes… We were very impressed with how generous everyone was,” Ashman said.

Cash donations will be accepted, and donations can be left at COBB & Associates through Thursday. COBB’s Day of the Dogs will be held from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20.

“It’s for dogs, it’s fun, and it’s summertime; people love to help animals,” Ashman said.
