Day of the Dead celebration set
Martin Mortuary will host a Day of the Dead celebration that will include the tradition of creating altars, along with entertainment and more.
The two-day celebration will go from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1–2, will be at the mortuary, 550 North Ave.
The Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos, is celebrated throughout Mexico and in other cultures. Family and friends gather to remember and pray for friends and family who have died.
Here is a schedule for this Day of the Dead celebration.
Friday, Nov. 1:
■ Altar setup, 8:30–11 a.m.
■ Short informational videos and mariachi music, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
■ Art walk, noon to 9 p.m.
■ Open discussion about the process of death, 1 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 2:
■ Short informational videos, mariachi music and art walk, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
■ Open discussion about funeral choices followed by Q&A, 1 p.m.
■ Mask making, 1–3 p.m.
■ Face painting, 1–4 p.m.
Art pieces in the art walk are for display and for sale, as well merchandise from vendor booths. Ten percent of all artwork and goods sold will be donated to HopeWest (hospice). Food also will be available to purchase for a donation to HopeWest.
