Enjoy meal at Empty Bowls
About 50 area potters have created colorful and unique bowls for the 21st annual Empty Bowls luncheon and fundraiser for the Grand Valley Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen.
Empty Bowls will go from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Soup Kitchen, 245 S. First St.
The bowls were created by School District 51 and Colorado Mesa University students. Each person with a $25 ticket will be able to pick out their bowl of choice and partake of soup donated by area restaurants, bread, a beverage and dessert. Children younger than 12 will receive a free soup when accompanied by a parent with ticket.
Diners will be serenaded with music throughout the event. Beautiful organ music will entertain those waiting in line outside.
Music students Kirsten Peterson and Kara Leonardi will perform in the bowl-selection area. The Evergreen String Quartet will perform in the Sweets Room, “where a selection of wonderful baked goods and Enstrom candy will be enjoyed along with the beautiful music.”
Proceeds from the event benefit Catholic Outreach, a nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding the hungry of the Grand Valley. Last year, Catholic Outreach prepared and served 67,766 meals to individuals in need, “and the number continues to increase each year,” a news release said.
“On any given day, about 250–300 individuals, families and children will come for the noon-day meal.”
