Enstrom’s sweet treats go around the world

Someone in India will be enjoying the rich, buttery flavor of Enstrom Candies Almond Toffee this holiday season.

So will people in the United Kingdom, Australia, Dominican Republic, China, Uruguay, Turkey and the Caicos Islands, among many other international destinations.

Enstrom Candies sent out thousands of boxes of toffee and other candy delicacies to all corners of the world during the month of December. In fact, 80 percent of the Grand Junction-based candymaker’s product is shipped during the months of November and December.

“We have celebrities, dignitaries, large corporations ... to just everyday folks who order this time of year,” said Doug Simons, co-owner and president of Enstrom Candies.

Enstrom Candies is finishing the year surprisingly strong, Simons said, considering its business was down 17 percent on Dec. 1.

Since the beginning of the month, the company has sent more than 100,000 packages to domestic and international destinations. Another 100,000 are expected to ship during this week leading up to Christmas.

Simons said many customers wait until the last minute to make their purchases.

“Our business continues to grow every year, but the window that we get it done in gets shorter and shorter,” he said.

On Friday, Enstrom Candies received 1,000 candy orders on the Internet and 400 from local customers.

“This is typical of our business, but it can be a little unnerving at times,” Simons said.

He said the decision about how much to make year to year is based on an estimate and requires good planning.

“We’re lucky to have produced in the right range to meet demand,” Simons said about this year’s production.

After nearly 50 years of producing top quality toffee, Enstrom Candies has become a holiday tradition in many homes worldwide.

“Our product truly is a holiday tradition around the world, and we’ve been really blessed by our customers to include us in their holiday,” Simons said.

Simons said Enstrom Candies holds its product to a high standard, and the employees work hard this to meet demand.

“We’re working hard, our spirits are high and we count our blessings every day that we’re here and working,” he said.

Enstrom Candies has extended its offer of free shipping to military service members through noon today. Customers who use overnight or express shipping can order as late as Wednesday for delivery in time for Christmas.
