Preview ‘Madame Butterfly’ at library
High Desert Opera will present “Madame Butterfly” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, and Saturday, Aug. 2, at Robinson Theatre in Moss Performing Arts Center on the Colorado Mesa University campus, but the public is invited to an informative, free preview to learn more about the opera from 6–7 p.m. Monday, July 21, at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library, 443 N. Sixth St.
The preview will offer fun tidbits and special insights about the performances.

Fruita studio looks for new home
Watercolor Dogs Studio in Fruita is looking for a new home, and the July classes will be the last at its present location, 145 N. Mesa St.

Summer Reading Program has season-ending parties
The 2014 Summer Reading Program at Mesa County Libraries ends Saturday, July 26, and participants are invited to a party to celebrate their success.
Wrap-up parties are planned at these locations:

Local artist Maggie Cook wins award
“A Quiet English Waterway,” a pastel painting by Grand Junction artist Maggie Cook, was awarded first place by renowned artist and judge Albert Handel, at the 10th annual Pastel Society of Colorado Mile High International Show.
The show is on display at the Denver Library, through Aug. 30.
Fruita Fall Fest looking for grand marshal
The Alpine Bank Fruita Fall Festival committee is accepting nominations through Friday, Aug. 1, for the grand marshal of the festival’s 2014 parade.
If you know a Fruita area resident who has contributed to the community or has gone above and beyond for Fruita, nominate him or her for the honor.
Art Center hosts new classes
