Audition date set for upcoming musical
High Desert Opera will have auditions for its upcoming New Year’s Eve weekend production of “Guys and Dolls.”
Auditions for all parts will be from 1–4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the First United Methodist Church, 522 White Ave. Singers should bring sheet music for any song. An accompanist will be provided.

Two artists honored at Ouray arts show
Local artists Bev O’Neil and Lorraine Sells received awards at the 56th annual Artists Alpine Holiday Fine Arts Show on display July 27 through Aug. 6 at the Ouray Community Center in Ouray.
Sell’s pastel, “Along the River Front Trail,” received the Mildred Baker Award of Merit and Special Merchant Award, and O’Neil’s pastel, “Simplicity,” received an Honorable Mention award.
The national juried show is one of the oldest juried art shows in Colorado and runs for nine days each August.
Quilt show on display at Ouray museum
The Ouray County Historical Museum’s annual Quilt Show will be on display through Oct. 1 at the museum, 420 Sixth Ave., in Ouray.
The display features 23 vintage pre-1960 quilts in addition to the quilts in the museum’s permanent collection. Admission to the museum costs $7 for adults and $3 for children. Children younger than 6 get in free. Call 970-325-4576 for information.
Deadline for art classes approaches
Friday, Aug. 26, is the deadline to register for fall classes at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.
