High Desert Opera audition date set
High Desert Opera will have auditions for its New Year’s Eve production of “Kiss Me Kate” from 1–3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the First United Methodist Church, 522 White Ave.
An accompanist will be provided and singers should bring resumes and sheet music for any song. Call Jim Werner at 644-2724 to reserve an audition time.

‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ shadow cast needed
The Paradise Theatre, 215 Grand Ave., in Paonia is seeking individuals ages 16 and older who would like to be part of its “Rocky Horror Picture Show” shadow cast.
The Paradise Theatre will show the film at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27–28. There are no speaking parts and the cast will perform as the movie is shown on the big screen.
Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at the theatre. The cast includes Dr. Frankenfurter, Brad, Janet, Rocky, Magenta, Riff Raff, Columbia, Eddie and an optional Dr. Scott. Additional cast members can be Transylvanians.
Participants must be 18 or older to be cast as one of the main characters, and 16 or older to be a Transylvanian.
Library puts out call for art for Culture Fest
Mesa County Libraries has put out a call to artists for a juried art show to be part of 2017 Culture Fest, an annual celebration of Mesa County’s cultural diversity.
The exhibition is competitive and is open to artists 18 and older who live in Mesa County. Two-dimensional fine art, including photography and computer-generated work, will be accepted. Work cannot exceed 36x48 inches and cannot exceed 40 pounds, and it must be ready to display with a secure wire hanger.
Artists may submit two entries by digital image for consideration. Entries will be accepted through 8 p.m. Oct. 2, and juror’s notification of accepted works will be made Oct. 9–13.
The exhibit will be on display from Oct. 27 through Jan. 4 at the Central Library. First, second and third place works will be honored.
An art show reception will be Friday, Nov. 3, and Culture Fest will be Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Central Library.
