Creative Avenues will have a grand opening celebration of its new building from 5–7 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at 835 N. 26th St.

Challenge the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to pingpong

 

Do you have the talent and nitty gritty it takes to win at pingpong?

Pingpong players are invited to challenge the band members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at pingpong prior to their concert on Saturday, July 21, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.

The pingpong challenge is at 5:30 p.m., also at the Avalon. Cost is $100 per player and proceeds will benefit Mesa County Partners.

Valley Symphony season tickets available

 

Season tickets are now available for the Valley Symphony’s 42nd concert season in the Uncompahgre Valley.

The season’s fives concerts will take place between September 2012 and April 2013.

Riverfront art and photo contest entries being taken

 

The Riverfront Commission is celebrating 25 years of trailbuilding and community effort through the public’s artistic expression and has put out a call for artists and photographers for an art and photo contest.

Entries will be accepted Aug. 13 through Sept. 10. Entries will be displayed in the Colorado Mesa University Gallery. Juried-in entries will be showcased at the Riverfront Commission 25th anniversary celebration Oct. 7 at the CMU ballroom, lobby and gallery.

Grand Junction photo wins top prize in Ouray

 

Larry Bennett of Grand Junction received the first-place ribbon for his photograph “Golden Mystery” in the Ouray County Historical Society’s 2012 Photo Exhibit. 

Don Paulson of Ouray received the second-place ribbon for “San Juan Mountain Garden.” Third-place went to Montrose resident Cara Fandel’s photo, “Solitude.” Donald Peterson, also of Montrose, received an honorable mention ribbon for “Trout Lake.” 

The exhibit, San Juan Memories, opened July 9 and will continue through Aug. 15 at the Ouray County Museum, 420 Sixth Ave., in Ouray. 

Admission to the museum and photo exhibit is $5 for adults and $1 for ages 6–12.
