Entertainment briefs: May 12–18
Music camp registrations accepted now
The registration deadline is quickly approaching a weeklong local day camp for children interested in music.
The Elementary School Music Camp for current fourth- and fifth-graders will go from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12–16 at Colorado Mesa University. The registration deadline is May 25. Tuition costs $150 for the week and includes a camp T-shirt and lunch at the CMU cafeteria.
No extensive knowledge of music or playing an instrument is needed to attend the camp.
The camp will be led by area certified and active music teachers and children will learn to read, sing, write and play music. Children also will be able to participate in enrichment courses in areas such as music technology, beginning guitar, percussion and singing.
An afternoon concert will end the camp on Friday.
To register or for information, go to coloradomesa.edu/music and look under “Festival and Camps” for “Elementary School Music Camp.”
CMU students compete, place at The Review
Colorado Mesa University graphic design students competed and placed at The Review, an annual portfolio review that is open to students enrolled in graphic design academic programs in Colorado.
The Review took place April 29 at SPACES Ballpark in Denver and was sponsored by the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Art Directors Club of Denver. Graphic design professionals volunteered their time to review the students’ portfolios and nominated the best ones for honors.
Jesus Almader and Joshua Felix took first and third places, respectively, in the advanced category for juniors, seniors and graduate students. Almader won a $1,000 scholarship.
Other CMU students who competed were Kieran Bender, Taylor Christensen, Stephen Finley, Shayne Fiore, Nicole Gardner, Nick Hill, Carolinn Hultgren, Carly Igoe, Cass Maes and Valerie Sears.
