Entertainment Briefs: ‘Les Mis’ auditions, artist sales and classes
‘Les Misérables’ auditions set for May 11-12
High Desert Opera will conduct auditions for all principal parts and the chorus for its production of “Les Misérables” to be presented New Year’s Eve and the following two weekends in January.
All roles and chorus spots are open to auditions, taking place from 1–4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 11–12, at First United Methodist Church, 522 White Ave. There are numerous small solo parts and about 16 principal roles to cast, including one pre-teen girl who must be able to sing the part of the young Cosette. All roles are singing roles, with very few spoken lines.
Those auditioning should bring a song. An accompanist will be provided.

Part II silk painting class available
Silk Painting, Part II, The Next Level will be offered from 2–5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at The Blue Pig Gallery, 101 W. Third St., in Palisade.
The course, taught by Mary Hertert, is a follow up for those who have had the basic introductory course or have painted on their own. It is useful to know about dyes, gutta resist and basic application techniques.
Cost is $45 and includes all materials.

Art sought for Peach Fest
The Palisade Chamber of Commerce invites members of the public to submit an original art piece to be used for the 45th anniversary year of the Palisade Peach Festival and to be considered for the $500 prize.
The deadline to drop off art at The Blue Pig Gallery is May 22. The art will be on display from May 25 through June 3 for judging by chamber members.
A reception and announcement of the winner will be June 7.
CMU students offer benefit ceramic sale
The Colorado Mesa University Mother’s Day Student Ceramic Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, May 8–9, on the ground floor of the University Center.
Proceeds from the sale will be used for student travel to a ceramics conference in July.
