Group plans performing arts festival

A group of local performing arts specialists are planning a Grand Valley Performing Arts Festival that will offer a wide range of dance, theater and musical events and performances Aug. 5–6 at Mesa State College.

The group met earlier this month and will host a second open forum at 6:30 p.m. April 4 to discuss further what elements will be included in the two-day event. The meeting will be in the Campus Center, Room 221, at Mesa State. Free parking will be available in the parking structure on 12th Street, adjacent to the Campus Center.

College dance students to perform in Aspen

Mesa State College dancers will travel on April 9 to Aspen to perform for the Aspen Dance Connection’s 33rd annual juried concert, “Portals.”

Students will perform with dancers from the local dance company Beyond Boundaries in pieces choreographed by Mesa State College faculty members Matthew Lindstrom and Melonie Buchanan Murray.

The dance pieces were submitted to the Aspen Dance Connection and accepted as part of a juried showcase that will include choreographers from across Colorado.

The college students also will have the opportunity to take part in master classes given in modern, jazz and hip hop.

Auditions for ‘Grease’ set for Saturday

Grand Valley Community Theater will have auditions for its next production, “Grease,” from 1–4 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at 448 Main St.

The musical will be directed by Jeffrey Stroud, former owner and producer of Greenshoe Theatre. All ages may audition.
