Evaluating a possible park
It’s not at all unreasonable that a task force from the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce wants to study the potential impacts of changing Colorado National Monument to a national park.
Questions such as how a change in status will affect energy development and growth in the region, or access to Glade Park, are legitimate issues that should be discussed.
We hope the task force will also examine what a change in status would mean for a tourist on the East Coast or in Europe, looking for a vacation spot, who Googles “national parks in Colorado.”
We believe national park status for the monument would be an overall benefit to this community. But we applaud the chamber for taking the time to evaluate the potential impacts.
