Farm and Ranch day planned for youth

The public is invited to learn more about life on the farm at the seventh annual Farm and Ranch Day

The event will be chock full of fun and educational activities and will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Coop Country/Ace Hardware, 1650 U.S. Highway 6&50, in Fruita.

Live music will be performed by Victoria and Mark Ramsey throughout the day and there will be a FFA construction project booth for the kids — a make and take birdhouse.

A free barbecue will be served by Mesa County 4-H from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free wagon rides, courtesy of Absolute Prestige, will be available and visitors can watch Colorado Association of Draft Horses demonstrations. There will be displays of live animals — see heifers, horses, goats, lambs, alpaca, llamas, chickens and rabbits up close.

Educational class opportunities feature Raising Backyard Chickens from 10–10:45 a.m.; Good Gardens Start with Healthy Soil, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.; Some Western Colorado Insects, 12:30–1:15 p.m.; and Keeping Horses on a Couple of Acres (Forever), 1:30–2:15 p.m.
