‘FrackNation’ tickets going fast

The number of free tickets for Thursday’s screening event of the documentary “FrackNation” are dwindling, according to News Channel 5, who are distributing the tickets. Of the 1,000 tickets to be distributed, the number of tickets available now is below 100, the news channel said.

The documentary takes direct aim at another documentary, “GasLand” by director Josh Fox — a film acclaimed in environmental circles for its assertions about the dangers of hydraulic fracturing. “Gasland” was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011.

“FrackNation” takes a sledgehammer to many of Fox’s assertions, including the iconic scene from Fox’s film where someone lights their faucet on fire. “FrackNation” includes a telling confrontation of Fox by journalist Phelim McAleer.

McAleer’s wife, Ann McElhinney, is a co-director of the film, and will be in attendance at Thursday’s screening at the Avalon Theatre.

She says the Grand Junction event is shaping up to be the biggest screening yet, of the dozens of events being planned around the country. In Ohio alone, 60 screening events are planned this week.

The last of the tickets can be had by calling 242-5000.
