Frame Depot sponsors annual pet photo and art contest

Pet lovers unite at the Frame Depot’s sixth annual Dog & Cat Days of Summer photo and artwork contest to benefit Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

Artists and photographers of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to enter the contest, which is more of a fun excuse to celebrate pets while collecting donations for Roice-Hurst.

“It’s a fun way people can show off their art work or photography,” said Frame Depot’s Jan Falter. “You know how much people love their pets.”

The rules of the contest are pretty simple.

People can submit artwork or photographs no larger than 16-by-20 inches from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 2 through Sept. 5, at Frame Depot, 529 Bogart Lane.

Entries don’t have to be framed or matted. They just need to be the entrant’s work and need to be ready to be hung as part of an exhibit.

For some, this may be the first opportunity to have artwork publicly displayed, Falter said.

The entry fee is one bag of non-clumping kitty litter, any variety color-free Purina cat food or one bag of Pedigree or Purina Brand dog food without color per submission. (These brands match the current diet of shelter animals.)

The collected food and art will be on display from Sept. 6 through Oct. 1.

An opening reception is 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6, which also is when judging will begin.

Entries will be split into artwork and photography. Prizes will be Frame Depot gift certificates, and a People’s Choice category also will be awarded based on public vote throughout the month of September.

The subject matter of each entry doesn’t have to be a cat or dog, but it must be of a pet.
