RSSFundraiser Saturday to help young cancer patient

A fundraiser to help pay medical bills for Delaney Clements will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Rite Aid, 400 N. First St.
Although the family does have health insurance, co-pay and prescription costs are high. Saturday’s fundraiser will include a live DJ, mechanical bull, Easter egg decorating contest, and a “Dump a Buck” event. All proceeds will be used to help off-set growing medical expenses.
Last fall, Clements, 8, complained of hip pain after falling from her bicycle. She received x-rays and was diagnosed with full-blown, stage 4 neuroblastoma, a common cancer in infancy and childhood. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital.
“Before that she was the picture-perfect healthy child,” said Barb Walsch, a long-time friend of the family, “It happened just that fast.”
Since that time, Clements has been receiving extensive chemotherapy and stem-cell treatment at Children’s Hospital in Denver. Statistically, the older a child is when diagnosed with the disease, the lower their survival rate.
“She’s 8-years-old and so far she’s beat every challenge that has come her way,” Walsch said. Clements’ family and friends are confident that she will be able to beat the disease.
Walsch said that she is grateful for the support provided by the Grand Junction community, Rite Aid, Rocky Mountain Sanitation, and other businesses.
