Funny man Bill Engvall to perform at the Avalon Theatre
If your funny bone needs to be tickled, here is a local opportunity for some humor.
Award-winning, Grammy-nominated actor and comedian Bill Engvall will perform comedy shows suitable for all ages at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Avalon Theatre. Tickets cost $44 to $54 and can be purchased at monumentalevents.com.
A timeline at billengvall.com highlights the comedian’s climb to fame, beginning with an open mic night in January 1983 at a Dallas club that was the catapult for his career. In 1992, he was named Best Male Standup at the American Comedy Awards and also appeared on the “Tonight Show” with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno.
His TV debut came in 1993 on the sitcom, “The Golden Palace,” and he later appeared on “Designing Women.”
His first comedy album, “Here’s Your Sign,” was released in May 1996 and was certified Platinum. It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Country album chart.
In 2000, Engvall joined “The Blue Collar Comedy Tour” alongside fellow comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White.
Also a published author, Engvall’s books include “You Don’t Have to Be Dumb to Be Stupid” (1997), “Here’s Your Sign” (2005) and an autobiography, “Bill Engvall-Just A Guy: Notes From a Blue Collar Life” (2007).
And, he can dance. Engvall appeared on Season 17 of “Dancing with the Stars. Although billed as the underdog, he made the finals and finished in fourth place.
