Gifts of the Goddess honors creative talents
Gifts of the Goddess, an art event that maternally honors the creative talents we were born with, opens with a reception and costume ball at 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Planet Earth & the 4 Directions Galley, 524 Colorado Ave.
Inspired by an exhibit in the burned out knave of a Catholic Church in 1994 in Baltimore, gallery owner Caole Lowry was one of 40 artists that “showed works to honor the Feminine Divine with a Mass to honor the Goddess,” Lowry wrote in a news release.
“That show was a landmark event and particularly for me in my awareness of what art can be,” she wrote. “I want to continue to create such magnificence. So here we have it ... and 15 years strong.”
The creative community has submitted to the exhibit not only art, but poetry and performance, inspired by the goddess, the “spirit that births all that is.”
The motto of this year’s exhibit “Make Art, Not War,” offers a climate of healing and remedy. The show will be on display through May 31.
Admission to the reception and costume ball (goddess and god attire requested) is an $8 donation at the door.
