GJ musician says he’s still in hunt on ‘The Voice’
Don’t be alarmed that local musician Charles King has yet to appear on hit NBC show “The Voice.” He will.
King confirmed Wednesday he participated in the blind audition phase of the competition but has no idea when his audition will air. It just hasn’t appeared through the first two episodes of Season 2 on Sunday, Feb. 5 and Feb. 6.
“It’s been freaking me out!” King exclaimed recently, while sipping water at a local coffee shop.
It became clear King was on the show when he started to appear on NBC’s promotional commercials for the show weeks ago.
People have approached King to ask about his experience on “The Voice,” but he is prohibited from saying much.
“I’m so overwhelmed and grateful for the support here in Grand Junction and how it’s spread,” he said.
The next round of blind auditions airs 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13.
Although King, 32, can’t talk much about the audition process, including his blind audition in front of judges Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine, King said he met wonderful people.
“The talent level this year is exquisite,” King said. “To be among that level of people definitely inspires you…”
To make the blind audition segment of the competition, King went through an audition process in Atlanta months ago.
He traveled to Georgia for the early auditions after friends encouraged him to give it a try.
(He auditioned three times for the Fox hit show “American Idol,” making it once before the judges but never to the competition.)
What makes “The Voice” different than other reality singing competitions is the talent is judged solely on the quality of a person’s voice instead of outer appearance, at least in the beginning stages, which is where the show is now.
King said he likes the show’s approach because he is a flamboyant man comfortable in his own skin with a larger-than-life personality. However, the judges won’t see that in the blind audition. They’ll hear his voice.
Regardless of how King fares on “The Voice,” he is excited for the future and ready for his episode to air to introduce his music and personality to millions.
“My true intention is to get out there and show the world who I am as an artist,” he said. “The experience was galactic. That’s my new word.”
