Guest artist, students perform at Festival for Creative Pianists
Almost $2,000 in prizes will go to the talented winners of the 2012 Festival for Creative Pianists, a festival for performers ages 19 and younger, from the area and beyond.
The festival will feature an evening Guest Artist Recital by Gary Smart, a presidential professor of music at the University of North Florida and one of the festival’s adjudicate judges.
Smart and other judges — Monte Atkinson with the faculty at Colorado Mesa University and John Salmon with the faculty of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro — will offer constructive written and verbal feedback to each contestant.
Student adjudications will be throughout Friday and Saturday, April 13–14, and are open to the public for $5 per adjudication or $20 for all adjudications.
The adjudications will be in the Recital Hall of the university’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.
Concerts also will be in the Recital Hall at the following times and dates:
■ 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, kick-off concert featuring Smart.
■ 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, judges and director program featuring classical and jazz piano selections played by Salmon, Houle and Smart.
■ 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, Winners Recital and Awards Ceremony. Festival winners will each perform and receive their prizes.
