America Recycles Day
Nov. 15 is America Recycles Day. This day is set aside by the National Recycling Coalition to support local efforts to raise awareness about the benefits of recycling.
It is a time to celebrate progress and keep momentum going.
Visit the coalition’s Web site at http://www.nrc-recycle.org/americarecycles.aspx and you can take a recycling pledge or calculate the impact of your recycling efforts with the Conversionator.
Don’t worry if you’re just starting out, you can get up to speed with Recycling 101.
The Colorado Association for Recycling’s Web site states, “America Recycles is a national event that promotes the social, environmental and economic benefits of buying recycled and recycling.”
The association is an active part of the national campaign.
The Environmental Protection Agency provided these interesting recycling facts:
• Twenty years ago, a single curbside recycling program existed in the United States. Now that figure exceeds 10,000.
• Currently, the United States recycles 33 percent of its waste. That rate has doubled during the past 15 years.
• Recycling saves energy and reduces greenhouse emissions that cause global climate change.
