Hispanic Heritage events set

Mesa County Libraries will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of activities in September and October.

These activities recognizing Hispanic Americans who enriched society and our nation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Central Library, 443 N. Sixth St. The first event will feature music, food and an appearance by Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia.

Additional events are:

■ “Los Tres Cabritos,” a Spanish-language puppet show for children, will be presented at the Central Library. Performances in Spanish will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16; 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18; and 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20. Performances in English will be at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1; 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2; 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3; and 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

■ An Immigration and Citizenship presentation by Andrew Lambrecht, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Denver Field Office director, will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Central Library.

■ A National Voter Registration Day voter registration drive will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Central Library.

■ Screenings and discussions of “Bless Me, Ultima,” a film based on the novel by Rudolfo Anaya, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, and 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the Central Library. The film is rated PG-13. Free tickets will be required for admission and will be available one week prior each event at all Mesa County Libraries locations. There is a limit of four tickets per person.

■ “Latino History in the Grand Valley,” a presentation by Dr. Tom Acker, and a performance by “Baile Folklorico — El Valle Lindo,” featuring an explanation of dance and costumes, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Central Library.
