BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE — The nation’s top military official says Air Force units that fly aging F-16 fighter jets on homeland security missions may not learn their future for two years.
Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met today with members of the Colorado National Guard, which includes a squadron of F-16s already past their expected life span.
Mullen says the Defense Department hasn’t decided what to do about such units. F-16s will eventually be replaced by F-35s, but it’s not certain when.
