Local firefighter battles for spot on ‘Spartacus’
As owner of 970Muscle, a fitness coaching company, and a member of the Grand Junction Fire Department, Derek Trombetta keeps his body sculpted like a Roman warrior.
He recently submitted his “Warrior Workout” video to Met-Rx, a leading nutrition supplement company, who is sponsoring a contest through their Facebook page.
Trombetta’s video, which was shot entirely on his iPhone, beat tens of thousands of entries submitted nationwide to the contest and was selected as a top 10 finalist. The grand prize winner will receive a cameo appearance on the next season of the STARZ hit series “Spartacus.”
“What makes my video different is I didn’t just work out,” Trombetta said, ” I went for creativity and entertainment.”
Not to mention that many of the exercises performed on the one minute video are just plain hard to do, such as deadlift 135 pounds, then jump from floor to a bench. In a short amount of time, Trombetta showed Met-Rx his physique, strength, gymnastics ability, and his personality.
“I think it really turned out like me,” he said.
Now, Trombetta needs to build votes in order to win a spot on the show. Watch the video and vote at http://apps.facebook.com/metrxvideocontest/video_detail.php?id=503
The winner will be determined by the voting of online audience. Fans can vote once per day through May 31.
