High school marching bands will compete in the street and the field during the 34th annual Colorado West Marching Band Festival.

Fourteen marching bands will perform and parade Main Street beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Twelve bands will perform field competitions beginning at 12:45 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.

The bands are all from Colorado, including many regional schools. An awards ceremony will conclude the competition at 4:15 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.

The festival typically is the first major competition of the year for many marching bands before the state qualifying event, which will take place Thursday, Oct. 13, at Stocker Stadium.

The marching band competition opens the performers up to critique and praise from judges, which is same type of format they can expect at additional competitions this school year.

Admission to Saturday’s stadium field events is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors or children older than 5.

The festival was moved from the first weekend in October because of a scheduling conflict at Stocker Stadium.
