Look out! Dec. 6

DEBRA DOBBINS/The Daily Sentinel Tara designed and made her hunter-green blouse, skirt and velvet pocket belt.

Scene: Tara attended a First Friday event at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

Style: The hunter-green blouse, skirt and velvet pocket belt were designed and made by Tara, who has an Etsy store with the name Sandala Moon where she sells pocket belts, fabric wallets, fingerless gloves and armwarmers with the tagline “fashion for dancing under the moon.”

Many of her clients are festival-goers — anime and Renaissance, for instance — who want a custom pocket belt to match their costume.

Tara likes to blend elements from different time periods with a “modern twist.” She has shipped pocket belts around the world: to Australia, Japan, Austria and Canada.

Fashion Sense: “I haven’t done as much clothing design, but I want to do more,” said Tara, who is trained in architectural and interior design, and works at the Blythe Group. “I’m a curvy lady myself, so one of the things that interests me is flattering a more full-figured woman.”

She likes to work in sturdier upholstery fabrics, and serge exterior seams. “It also allows me to do really fine details,” Tara said.

“I’m very inspired by some of the newer things that are slowly trickling” into mainstream design, such as steampunk, she said. “People are more daring and they’re willing to try new things.”
