Look Out! Alice’s ‘functionality’

Alice’s navy cardigan, blue-and-white striped dress and leggings are from Old Navy.

Scene: A friend called Alice on Saturday night, saying, “Why aren’t you here?” Since she was just down the road outside Palisade, Alice headed to the barbecue and concert at a neighbor’s barn where the potluck was plentiful and the music — by Barrel Proof and Tight Thump — was live.

Style: Her navy cardigan, blue-and-white striped dress and leggings (“two pairs for outside”) are from Old Navy. Alice accessorized with a red, organic-cotton scarf from Vitamin Cottage, a turquoise bracelet lifted from her mother’s collection and a string bracelet made by her son. The Sorel boots allow her to stomp through the countryside mud and show with abandon.

Fashion Sense: “I teach fifth grade, so I always dress for functionality,” Alice said. No fan of trying on clothes, “I despise shopping, so when I see something I like, I buy it and just fix it later,” if necessary, she said.
