LS: Quilts will be part of Gateway’s T party

Quilters are invited to participate in the upcoming Gateway Auto Museum’s Model T centennial celebration.

The event Sept. 26–28 will feature the cars and their influence on transportation, culture and society in America.

Museum officials also want to display quilts from each decade of the 20th century during the show. They hope to show at least one — and more if possible — from each 10-year period.

Admission will be free to the quilt owners on Sunday, the main day of the event. The exhibit of cars, quilts and antiques and an early 1900s exhibit from the Museum of the West are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A lecture on “1907 to 1927 The Marvelous Model T: The Car that Put the World on Wheels” by Dick Rubens is scheduled at 1 p.m.

At 2 p.m., quilt historian and restorer Laura Pedge of Grand Junction will give a quilting history tour.

Another lecture at 3 p.m. is titled “The Model T: Mass Production and the Assembly Line Launches the Proliferation of the Automobile” by Preston Patterson.

If you have a quilt you would like to show — either an heirloom or a more modern piece — deliver it to Quilter’s Corner, 421 Colorado Ave., Grand Junction, before Sept. 23. Pedge, who works at the shop, has entry forms available there and can help quilt owners date their quilts if necessary. You can also call her at Quilter’s Corner, 255-8838.

Quilts can be offered for sale at the show, with 10 percent of the price going to the museum. Unsold quilts will be returned to Quilter’s Corner on Sept. 30.

You can also deliver quilts directly to the museum in Gateway by Sept. 23 and pick them up there Sept. 30.
