Main Street open to cars on Saturday

Drivers will get to access Main Street from Fourth to First streets starting Saturday.

The area will be open to pedestrians, only, tonight for a party from 5 to 9 p.m. in the 300 block of Main Street.

The three western blocks of downtown Main Street have been closed to auto traffic for nearly five months during the first phase of the Downtown Uplift project.

Project work included repaving the street, expanding the sidewalk, installing new lighting, putting in new sewer and water lines, adding a play area, and putting in new street furniture and drinking fountains.

New planters, landscaping, irrigation lines, curbs, gutters and sidewalks also were installed.

The project had a projected finish date of June 9, the day before the summer’s first downtown farmers market.
