Moab Music Festival
With sand for a stage and red rock walls for acoustics, the Moab Music Festival is a chance to enjoy classical and jazz music in the magnificent outdoor setting that is the Moab, Utah, area.
Among the highlights of this 20th anniversary season are:
■ Noon Thursday, Aug. 30 — The first of three Grotto Concerts scheduled during the festival. The event’s signature event, the Grotto Concert begins with people boarding a boat in Moab and following the Colorado River to a remote outdoor venue to hear classical music.
■ 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 — The Moab Music Festival tent pitched on the shore of the river by Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge hosts a sunset concert with music from famed classical composers before Charles Yang performs his arrangement of the Michael Jackson’s “Medley” for electric violin.
■ 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 — A concert featuring Bela Fleck and the jazz group Marcus Roberts Trio.
■ 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 — Star Hall in Moab hosts the closing night concert titled “Bravo Bernstein!” featuring the chamber orchestra’s version of Leonard Bernstein’s one-act opera “Trouble in Tahiti” as directed by his daughter Jamie Bernstein.
The Moab Music Festival will begin Wednesday, Aug. 29, and continues until Sunday, Sept. 9.
