Monument Walks & Talks Series to start

Colorado National Monument, in partnership with the Colorado National Monument Association, is set to begin its Spring Walks & Talks Series with its first event on Wednesday, March 27, with outings planned into June.

The series presents a variety of outings and events in Colorado National Monument’s red rock setting.

Programs cover topics such as birding, history, hiking, astronomy and star gazing, music and more.

Here are the scheduled topics and dates:

■ Echo Canyon Under the Full Moon, 8–9:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, pre-register.

■ Spring Break Digital Photo Scavenger Hunt, 2–4 p.m. Thursday, March 28, pre-register.

■ M42 ­— The Orion Nebula & Jupiter, at dusk Saturday, March 30.

■ Investigating The Island in Monument Canyon, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 17, pre-register.

■ Lunar, Jupiter & Orion Visual Observing & Photography, at dusk April 13.

■ Lower Ute Canyon Hike, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2 and May 4, pre-register.

■ Fruita History Day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4.

■ Looking and Listening for Frogs and Toads, 5–7 p.m. May 9, pre-register.

■ Bird Walk in Devil’s Kitchen, 8 a.m. May 11 and May 15, pre-register.

■ Flute Concert with Tony Babbitt, 5:30 p.m. May 11, Saddlehorn Amphitheatre.

■ Cactus Walk along the Old Gordon Trail, 9:30 a.m. to noon May 23 and May 25, pre-register.

■ Western Colorado Astronomy Club annual Star Party at dusk June 7–8.
