The Daily Sentinel has long followed and applauded the gradual build-up of Colorado’s moose herds, especially on Grand Mesa. So it is more than a little distressing to see the large animals carelessly killed by folks hunting other types of critters.
As reported by The Daily Sentinel’s Dave Buchanan, 14 moose were illegally killed last year, and 11 have been illegally killed so far this year. The most recent was on Grand Mesa.
Moose herds in the state have grown enough that 175 moose tags are issued in Colorado each year. But the extent of legal moose hunting could be restricted by continued, irresponsible kills.
Come on, hunters, look carefully before you pull the trigger and be sure you know what animal is in your crosshairs.
