Move afoot to use Forest Service land for housing

FRISCO — U.S. Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet have introduced legislation to allow the use of Forest Service land for affordable housing in Summit County,

The legislation calls for a 40-acre land exchange from the Dillon Ranger District to Summit County. U.S. Rep. Jared Polis introduced a similar bill in the House.

According to the Summit Daily, federal officials believe the Forest Service-owned land has been marred by highways and trees that have been damaged by the bark-beetle epidemic, making it no longer useful for their needs.
