MSC symphony, various choirs offer concerts

If fall has left you in a classical state of mind, then these two concerts at Mesa State College will turn your head.

The Mesa State College Symphony Orchestra gives its Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, in Robinson Theatre in the college’s Moss Performing Arts Center.

On the program are the “Coriolan Overture” by Beethoven, “Concerto for Oboe and String” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and “Symphony No. 104” (the “London Symphony”) by Hayden.

The Fall Choral Concert, which will feature the college’s Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Women’s Choir,  will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in Robinson Theatre.

Monte Atkinson and Carol Ann Niles will direct the performance.

Among the pieces to be performed are Joan Szymko’s “All Works of Love,” which features text by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and the premiere of “Among the Multitude,” by Mesa State theater/music faculty member Jeremy Franklin with text from poet Walt Whitman.

Tickets to each show are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students and children. Tickets are available at Mesa State’s Box Office.
