R. Carlos Nakai will fill Avalon Theatre with the sound of the traditional cedar wood flute during a benefit performance with guest percussionist Will Clipman, who hails from Tucson, Ariz.
This concert, which will benefit the Western Colorado Congress, will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.
Nakai is of Navajo-Ute heritage and is the “world’s premier performer” on the wood flute. His first album, “Changes,” was released by Canyon Records in 1983, according to his bio at canyonrecords.com.
Nakai has released 37 albums with Canyon Records in addition to albums and guest appearances on other labels, the bio adds.
Nakai has appeared as a soloist throughout the United States, Europe and Japan, and has worked with Grammy-winning flutist Paul Horn, guitarist/luthier William Eaton, composer James DeMars, two-time Grammy-winning producer Billy Williams and others.
He has sold more than 4 million albums in the course of his career.
