Would you like your hip-hop order supersized?

Viper recording artist Chino XL headlines the third annual Slap Frost Tour and will perform on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Mesa Theater, 538 Main St.

Nicknamed “The Puerto Rican Superhero,” Chino XL is “a 6’2”, 230 lb. lyrical beast, and one of the most widely recognized names in the rap game,” according to the show notes at

Struggles came early in life for this multi-talented hip-hop artist. The son of a single parent living in the projects, “Chino had to hustle to survive” and “his only escape was music,” the notes said.

He began performing at 12, and “eventually caught the ear of Def Jam founder Rick Rubin, who immediately signed Chino to Def American Records.”

His debut single, “Kreep,” from his first album “Here To Save You All,” reached No. 2 on MTV.

After success in the music business, Chino XL tried his hand at acting and appeared in “Alex & Emma,” starring Kate Hudson, Luke Wilson and Rob Reiner. He also had a solo project debut at Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival.

Chino eventually returned to his first love, music, and said the time away gave him a “renewed sense of passion and inspiration.”

The Slap Frost Tour features fellow rap and hip-hop artists Z-Man, Vocab Slick and True Justice.

Tickets cost $10–$15.
