Music scene: Jan. 27-Feb. 2
Andy Grammer was one of Billboard’s 2011 Artists to Watch, and now you can watch him perform in Grand Junction.
The Top 40 recording artist will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the University Ballroom of the Colorado Mesa University Center.
Presented by KMSA 91.3, the concert also will feature guests Ryan Star and Rachel Platten.
Grammer is enjoying the popularity of his hit, “Keep Your Head Up,” a track from his self-titled S-Curve Records debut, released in June.
Prior to recording the album, Grammer spent thousands of hours practicing his music on the streets of Los Angeles entertaining passersby via an amplifier and acoustic guitar powered by his car battery, according to his bio at http://www.andygrammer.com.
Grammer was born in Los Angeles and grew up in New York. His bio notes that much of his music is upbeat, and he is quick to add that he’s hardly “pink and fluffy. I’m not intentionally trying to be positive, I’m just trying to be real,” he says.
Grammer has toured with the Plain White Ts, Josh Kelley, Natasha Bedingfield and others.
He is not a stranger to a university venue. He has under his belt at least 100 shows at colleges and universities, as well as birthday parties and high school dance classes, the website says.
The all-ages concert is free for CMU students with a current MAVcard. Admission for all others is $10.
